How to Treat Your House For Ants
Boiling water is all that’s needed for one of the greatest and oldest ant-removal methods! Boiling water is an excellent way to slow down pavement ants when they start to build sand mounds in the yard, on the sidewalk, or on the patio!
Boiling Water
- One gallon of water should be boiled before being poured immediately onto the mounds. Till all pests are eliminated, repeat the process once every day.
- Although boiling water will slow them down, pavement ant colonies can number in the 100,000s, so you will only be winning the fight and not the war.
Baiting
Place homemade pavement ant traps in areas where the pests are common. Make sure all other food sources are gone. The following products can be used as bait:
- A mixture of sugar and borax that is split equally. Borax is known to be lethal to insects, which are drawn to sweet things.
- Corn flour. These undesirable guests cannot properly digest it and will soon pass away.
- Uncooked cream of wheat (or farina). That will kill them when they consume it because it will expand in their stomachs.
Pick Up Some Liquid Bait
At your local hardware store purchase a borax solution or an insecticide with Boran in the ingredient list

Don’t put down liquid bait and then spray insecticide as well —that just stops the ants from eating the bait!
